Sunita Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, affirmed that they were not stranded on the International Space Station despite comments made by Trump.

The astronauts' mission, initially planned for a 10-day duration, faced hurdles due to issues with Boeing's Starliner. Concerns with the vehicle's thrusters and other technical glitches necessitated NASA to explore alternative return options.
Trump's remarks seemed to politicize the typically bipartisan space agency, with his appeals to Elon Musk to intervene. Notably, SpaceX had already secured a contract in August to facilitate the astronauts' return.

Following the controversy, NASA accelerated the return flight from late March to March 12. This decision was motivated by the utilization of a well-tested SpaceX capsule that required fewer safety checks compared to a newer alternative.
